first_img Wayne Rooney Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has suffered a knee ligament injury and is facing up to two months on the sidelines, according to widespread reports.The striker did not travel with the United squad to Denmark for the Europa League qualifier against FC Midtjylland on Thursday night.It was initially thought that Louis van Gaal had decided to leave Rooney behind in order to give the 30-year-old a breather.But it has now emerged that that he injured his knee over the weekend and is set to miss the majority of United’s run-in.If confirmed, it would represent a major blow to United’s hopes of finishing in the Premier League’s top four.Van Gaal’s side are currently six points adrift of Manchester City, who occupy the final Champions League qualification spot.Rooney has started 2016 in good form, scoring seven goals in all competitions since the turn of the year. A lengthy absence would also concern England boss Roy Hodgson ahead of this summer’s Euro 2016 finals. 1last_img read more
