6:15 p.m. Santa Fe High School’s Marcus Orona fought off a challenge from Gilroy’s Martin Gonzalez and advanced to tonight’s CIF State wrestling championships quarterfinals with a 3-1 victory in the third round earlier today at Bakersfield’s Rabobank Arena. The Chiefs junior, the No. 2 competitor at 119 pounds in the state, is one of four area wrestlers who advanced to the third round. Heavyweight Lenny Romero, also from Santa Fe, lost a tough 3-1 decision in sudden-death overtime to Clovis’ Jonathan Zomora, Schurr’s Julian Zuniga (215) dropped a 7-2 setback to Clovis’ Vince Lopez and California’s Ruben Warr (130) lost, 12-10, to Bakersfield Buchanan’s Isidro Gutierrez in the third round.
